GETTING CLOSER

Well not really but Saturday's workout was one of the best in a long time and that included my chin up plan.  Maybe it felt good because I was rocking the crazy leggings and, at the last minute, decided to do the work out outside.  Hey, I do carry kettlebells in my car.  If I wouldn't be so embarrassed, I would take a pic of everything in my car.  YIKES!  Here's what I did...

I did five sets of 3 reps...still using all 3 bands.

For the work out, I used a 12 kg kettlebell and did the following:

5 rounds of 3 reps of one-handed swings, cleans, presses and snatches
Farmer's carries
3 rounds of 4 reps of one-handed swings, cleans, presses and snatches
Farmer's carries
1 round of 5 reps of one-handed swings, cleans, presses and snatches.
Farmers carries.

This work out not only helps increase  strength but is also a cardio workout.

At the direction of Kevin Carr at Movement as Medicine, I did 3 reps of body weight squats, split squats (It was a no go with the left leg in back) and then a bunch of therapeutic exercises.  Body weight squats felt pretty good.  I want to be 100% again.  I want to be under the bar!

What is a clean?

Iron Body by Aretmis Holiday Swing Challenge

I did this challenge last year and shared my postings from the Swing Challenge Facebook Page.  Thought I would share again.  I recommend you think about joining the challenge.  Gets your heart pumping in the comfort of your own home.  You can jump in on Day 4 or 5 if you have the interest.  Artemis is also doing the challenge on Periscope if you are interested.  Search @IrnBdyByArtemis.

Day 1

As usual these days, I wasn't sure what the actual work out was so I made up my own. I did 292 one handed swings with a 12 kg bell. I didn't quite achieve what I had set out to do but that is okay.
I've had very limited access to KBs the past 5 weeks due to vacation and traveling for work. So, now, I am working to get it back. So glad we are doing this.
BTW...I signed up for a 5K on 12/12 just for fun. Have I done any running in years. No, I have not. I had planned to but work travel derailed that. I will do some but I am hoping the conditioning from this KB challenge helps my endurance!

Day 2...

200 swings. Can I just say that I forgot how much this KB challenge I love this KB challenge and how great swings are.
After yesterday, my butt thanks you. Great soreness from yesterday. Deadlifts, squats, etc are great for the butt. Me...I always forget how great swings are too.

Day 3...

378 swings.
I did 5 rounds with a 12 kg bell...felt pretty easy. ...
Moved on to two rounds with a 14 kg bell...more difficult but working on that endurance. It is coming back.

Day 4 has not been done yet. Hopefully, I will be back later! Good times.

TRAINING

My plan was to share my journey from the road of paralegal to SFG Kettlebell Instructor Level 1 Certification.

My initial training, for now, includes participating in the Women's Strength Training Program at Iron Body Studios.  I would like to share my training at Iron Body Studios.  However, the program was written by Artemis.  It is her personal program.  It is how she makes her living.  So I am not comfortable sharing what I am doing and the weight I am lifting.

Let me just say...my goals include increasing my deadlift and press and doing at least one pull up.

On the first day of training my greatest surprise was that I could actually do 3 sets of 5 assisted pull ups.  The assisted part was 2 medium sized bands.  I guess anything is possible.  I may bang out a pull up yet.

I plan to share the journey on this blog...until I get to this point.
